Biorevitalization vs mesotherapy: what's the difference and which to choose
Biorevitalization hydrates the skin: the doctor injects a hyaluronic acid product into it. For mesotherapy, the doctor chooses a cocktail of vitamins, amino acids, hyaluronic acid and other substances for a specific concern, and it's also done on the scalp. A cosmetic doctor decides which of the two you need after an examination.

How biorevitalization differs from mesotherapy
Both are injections into the skin, and at Viva Clinic both are done by a cosmetic doctor. The technique is similar: the skin is cleansed and treated with an antiseptic, and then the doctor injects the product with a fine needle, in small amounts across the whole area. The difference is in what’s injected and why.
Biorevitalization uses hyaluronic acid products. Hyaluronic acid holds water in the skin, so the main goal is to hydrate the skin from within. The product is fluid and spreads within the skin, so the volume and shape of your face don’t change.
A mesotherapy cocktail may contain vitamins, amino acids, hyaluronic acid and other substances. The doctor chooses the formula for a specific concern, so mesotherapy can look quite different from one person to the next. It’s also done on the scalp when hair is thinning, but first the doctor finds out why the hair is falling out.
Which is better: biorevitalization or mesotherapy
Neither is better for everyone: the choice depends on what bothers you.
Biorevitalization is usually recommended when your skin lacks moisture:
- it feels tight after washing and flakes;
- summer sun or dry air during the heating season has dehydrated it;
- fine lines have appeared and it has become less firm;
- it’s oily but still lacks moisture.
Mesotherapy is more often chosen for other concerns:
- a dull complexion or skin that has lost tone;
- skin that needs support after a facial cleansing;
- hair that is thinning or falling out more than usual.
Neither treatment fills deep wrinkles or restores lost volume. Fillers are used for that, and expression lines on the forehead and between the brows are smoothed with botulinum toxin injections.
Inflamed spots, pigment spots that change, and sudden hair loss should be shown to a dermatologist first. In these cases, cosmetic treatments are planned after treatment or alongside it, once the doctor allows it.
How many sessions you need
Both treatments are usually done as a course of several sessions. Biorevitalization sessions are a few weeks apart. For mesotherapy, the doctor decides on the cocktail, the number of sessions and the breaks between them after examining you. How many sessions you’ll need depends on the condition of your skin or hair, your age and the product, and the doctor plans the course before the first session.
The effect of biorevitalization gradually fades because hyaluronic acid breaks down in the skin over time. How quickly that happens depends on your skin, the product and your lifestyle. Your doctor will tell you separately whether you need maintenance sessions after the course and when.
Can you avoid needles
Yes, Viva Clinic offers needle-free versions of both treatments. Instead of injectable biorevitalization, you can have PRX-T33: the product is applied to the skin, and nothing is injected. Technically it’s a peel, and our article what PRX-T33 is explains how it works.
Needle-free mesotherapy is done with devices. In oxygen mesotherapy, the cocktail is delivered onto the skin with a jet of oxygen. In needle-free mesotherapy, or electroporation, short electrical pulses briefly make the skin more permeable, and the cocktail gets into it without injections. Device-based methods have their own contraindications, such as a pacemaker or metal implants in the treatment area, and they’re checked separately.
Who shouldn’t have these treatments and what to expect afterwards
Injections aren’t done, or are postponed:
- during pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- with herpes, inflammation or broken skin in the injection area;
- with an acute infection or fever;
- with blood clotting disorders or while taking anticoagulants;
- with an allergy to any component of the product or cocktail.
Biorevitalization is also postponed during a flare-up of a chronic illness. Your doctor checks the full list of contraindications at the consultation, so mention any illnesses, medication and allergies. Don’t stop medicines prescribed by another doctor on your own.
After both treatments, small bumps remain at the injection sites, and redness and small bruises are possible. They usually go away within a few days, so don’t schedule injections right before a celebration or a photo shoot.
Call the doctor who did the procedure right away if the skin in the injection area turns white, blue or blotchy, or the pain gets worse. If your vision suddenly worsens, your eye hurts, you see double or your eyelid droops, call an ambulance on 103. Also call 103 if your face, tongue or throat swells and breathing becomes difficult. If, days or weeks later, the skin in the injection area becomes hot and red, painful lumps or pus appear, or you develop a fever, contact a doctor the same day.
A cosmetic doctor chooses the method after an examination, so you can come for a consultation even if you don’t know yet which treatment you need. Biorevitalization at Viva Clinic and mesotherapy are done at the aesthetic medicine center at 16b/3 Kuzovkova St in Slavuta. You can book by phone, on Viber or Telegram.
Questions and answers
Which hurts more: biorevitalization or mesotherapy?
They feel similar. In both cases the product is injected with a fine needle, and you'll feel the injections, but there's usually no severe pain. How it feels depends on the area and your pain threshold, so if you don't tolerate pain well, tell your doctor at the consultation.
Can biorevitalization and mesotherapy be combined?
Yes, if the doctor decides your skin needs it. The doctor makes one plan for all your treatments so that enough time passes between injections into the same area. So tell your doctor about any peels, facial cleansings and injections you've had recently.
What should I avoid after biorevitalization or mesotherapy?
On the first day, skip makeup and don't touch the injection area unless you need to. For the first 48 hours, avoid saunas, bathhouses and pools, and put off intense workouts. Avoid tanning, apply SPF, and put off dental work that may make your gums bleed for 3–4 weeks.
