Lab tests explained
What blood tests, ferritin and hormone tests show and how to prepare: articles by the Diagnost-Lab laboratory and Viva Clinic doctors in Slavuta.

What a complete blood count shows and how to prepare for it
A complete blood count (CBC) shows the number of red and white blood cells and platelets and the amount of hemoglobin in your blood, and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is often measured with it. From the results, a doctor can spot anemia, signs of inflammation and other changes and decide whether you need more tests. The test is done in the morning, usually on an empty stomach.

What ferritin is and what to do if it's low
Ferritin is the protein your body stores iron in, so a ferritin test shows how much iron you have in reserve. Low ferritin most often means iron deficiency, sometimes even before your hemoglobin drops. Don't try to raise it on your own: a doctor first looks for the cause of the deficiency and only then decides whether you need iron supplements.
